At training next week the head trainer used to give out all the results at the end of the class.
It came to my turn and he just said that the next time I go to a show, I should give Jade the bus fare as she could read the numbers better than I could

Jilty Jade

Where do I start?
A long time ago 1997 Jilty Jade started doing agility with ACTS in Aberdeen.
She seemed to enjoy it, but was a lot faster than her handler could manage.
Daughter (who was very fit) was drafted in came along to help train her and it progressed from there. Entered a competition in 1998 think it was Gleniffer at Lanark race course and had a first and a second. Well I thought that it was easy but it turned out that it was not easy at all, as I found out later.
So I entered her for another competition this time at Dabbs in Fife, think it was the Beardie Show. By the time came for the show daughter had found a new job and could not manage, the other half would not run her. I turned up late for the show, found the head trainer for the our club and told him that someone had to run Jade, he replied that no one else was available and I would have to do it myself. Panic set in I really wasn't sure about this as I had never done any agility, a couple of members took me to get Jade measured. It seemed that we had to get the dogs measured every time we turned up for a show, also running orders (what are these things for I asked).
Then off to the rings as a course had to be walked, I just got confused as we walked along, oh you have to follow the numbers one of the members said. It was ok for them they had been doing it for a couple of years.
Anyway I watched a few people how they done it, now my turn got to number 4 which was the start of a box I got confused then completly lost and I gave up, this was more difficult than I thought, my daughter must have been good then.
Then it was onto a time fault and out (what the hell was this) I started ok got to number 5 was doing alright I thought, then I wondered why is Jade not beside me. Heard someone shouting to me would you follow the dog, I looked around and Jade could not be found, they shouted again and told me to look at the dog walk, wow she knew the course better than me. I went over did another few jumps and a whistle was blown ( what was that for I asked) seems that I had to get off the course.
Onto another ring in the afternoon this course seemed to be more flowing, walked it with a club member suggesting that I should handle the dog on my right hand side (whats this I asked) amy way my turn and off we go it was just a blur and we made it to the end getting a few cheers and a handclap.
Later on the head trainer said I had to go to the presentations, so I did, boy did I got a big surprise Jade got a fifth in the time fault and out, and she also got a 3rd in an agility round.
I went driving back to Aberdeen as though I had won the pools pulled out the rossies to show the wife and put them on the mirror so everyone could see them.
From that day on I enjoy my agility and it is fun although I have had a lot of ups and downs doing it.
